“I don't have trauma.”

When we think of trauma, we may reference more extreme traumas—for example, traumatic experiences from natural disasters. You would be correct! However, everyone faces trauma at varying degrees with varying experiences. Do you love spicy food? If you do, I'm sure it makes you happy to eat it. Well, there is someone who has had a traumatic experience with the food that you love.

Some ways you may recognize trauma, is through your body sensations, thoughts and emotions.  Here are some examples of reactions:

  • Tight throat
  • Panic attacks
  • Addictions
  • Sensitivity to light or sound
  • Forgetfulness
  • Helplessness
  • Disassociation or detachment

These along with other cues can be an indication of trauma.

“That happened a long time ago, it's not affecting me.  I don't even think about it.”

Welllll…. the body is an interesting instrument.  When it's in tune, it will be in harmony.  But when it's out of tune, it works in disharmony.  Meaning that the body remembers.  In a sense, it can be said that your body holds the memory of traumatic experiences as energy.  Until you tune your instrument and release the traumatic energy, your body will continue to bring you disharmony.

So, be curious about your body!

You may be surprised by what you find.

I know, I was!

This coaching experience granted me the access that was needed to improve my career.

SHATIMA O.F.

I would say that I went into the coaching with no expectations and came out better for it because the questions helped me to look further into myself and challenge my way of thinking to self-correct myself, all while opening my eyes to things I didn’t even realize about my own way of thinking or feeling.

LARISSA P.

My experience was that I was finally able to calm my mind, exhale, calm my body down, relax, and tap into who I am. Charmaine was down to earth, straightforward, and I felt loved upon. It allowed me to get still, which is extremely difficult for me.

What is Somatic Experiencing?

Somatic experiencing, created by Peter A. Levine, is a therapeutic technique aimed at addressing and healing trauma and disorders caused by stress. It acknowledges the significance of the connection between the mind and body, with the main emphasis on reinstating the inherent self-regulating processes of the nervous system.

How does Somatic Experiencing work?

Somatic experiencing works by helping individuals develop an awareness of their bodily sensations and regulating their responses to stress and trauma. Through gentle exploration of bodily experiences and sensations, it can assist in releasing trapped energy and trauma, promoting a sense of safety, resilience, and overall well-being.

What can Somatic Experiencing help with?

Somatic experiencing can help with various issues related to trauma and overwhelming experiences. These may include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, chronic pain, emotional dysregulation, and a range of physical symptoms associated with unresolved trauma.

Is Somatic Experiencing suitable for everyone?

Somatic experiencing can be beneficial for individuals of all ages and backgrounds who have experienced trauma or stress. It is a gentle and non-invasive approach that focuses on working with the body's natural healing capacities. However, it's important to consult with a qualified somatic experiencing practitioner to determine if it's the right fit for your specific needs.

What can I expect in a Somatic Experiencing session?

A somatic experiencing session typically involves a safe and supportive environment where you can explore bodily sensations, emotions, and memories associated with trauma or stress. The practitioner will guide you through exercises and techniques that help regulate your nervous system, gradually releasing stored tension and promoting resilience.

How long does Somatic Experiencing typically take to see results?

The duration of somatic experiencing sessions can vary depending on the individual's needs and the nature of the trauma or stress experienced. Some individuals may experience significant relief and progress within a few sessions, while others may require longer-term support. It's important to remember that healing is a unique journey, and the pace of progress may vary. Your somatic experiencing practitioner will work collaboratively with you to develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.

What is trauma-informed coaching?

Trauma-informed coaching is a specialized approach integrating somatic experiencing techniques with solution-focused coaching that acknowledges the significant impact of trauma on an individual's life and well-being. It involves understanding the effects of trauma, creating a safe and supportive space, and utilizing coaching techniques tailored to the unique needs of trauma survivors. The goal is to empower individuals to heal, thrive, and achieve their goals compassionately and trauma-sensitively.

How can trauma-informed coaching benefit me?

Trauma-informed coaching can offer several benefits to individuals who have experienced trauma. It provides a supportive and understanding environment where you can safely explore your experiences, address triggers, and develop strategies for healing and growth. Through personalized coaching techniques, such as grounding exercises, boundary setting, and resilience-building practices, you can gain self-awareness, expand your coping skills, and move towards a life of post-traumatic growth and empowerment.

Is trauma-informed coaching suitable for individuals who have experienced different types of trauma?

Yes, trauma-informed coaching includes various types of trauma, including childhood trauma, single incident traumas, complex trauma, and more. Trauma can manifest in different ways, and trauma-informed coaching embraces this diversity. The coach will create a safe and non-judgmental space to explore and address the impact of trauma, regardless of its origin. They will utilize trauma-sensitive coaching techniques and interventions designed to meet the unique needs of each individual, fostering healing and growth.

Your body is showing you, believe it!
